Blackburn Deaf Village featured on BBC 2’s See Hear

The visit from BBC See Hear created an instant sense of familiarity and warmth “it felt like old friends meeting again.” The atmosphere throughout the day reflected the strong relationships and shared understanding at the heart of Deaf Village Group.

The See Hear crew took time to capture what makes Deaf Village so special. “The crew captured the heart of what Deaf Village is all about: connection, community, and pride in who we are,” they said. The visit highlighted the importance of Deaf-led spaces that celebrate language, culture and identity.

During the visit, Debra Cartlidge, CEO of Deaf Village Group, sat down with the team for an interview, sharing the vision behind the organisation and the impact Deaf Village continues to have across the community. She spoke about the importance of creating spaces where Deaf people feel understood, valued and empowered.

“Deaf Village gives our community a true sense of belonging a space built on shared experiences, language, and culture,” they said. These words perfectly reflect the mission of Deaf Village Group and the lasting impact of its work.

We are grateful to BBC See Hear for visiting and for helping to amplify Deaf voices and stories. Visits like this help raise awareness, celebrate Deaf culture and strengthen the visibility of Deaf-led organisations across the UK.
