A Dreamscape of Endless Possibilty

A dreamscape is a peaceful, beautiful place where safety and comfort can be found.

The White House is a historic 17th Century cottage, in the beautiful woodland valley on the cusp of Pleasington. The building has undergone a complete modern SMARThome refurbishment. Comprising of 5 living quarters and large communal living spaces, the White House is situated within the Deaf Village grounds where everyone here uses or is encouraged to learn British Sign Language.

The White House offers a safe and secure, stable, communal living environment for Deaf residents with complex needs not otherwise catered for across the usual strands of care provision. Here, young adults can work towards their own future aspirations, discovering themselves along the way.

Safe, secure home life is often only a privilege afforded to those individuals without sensory/complex needs.

Our residents typically come from backgrounds where they have struggled within their own family home environment or have been caught up in social care for most of their young adult lives. The White House looks to reinstate a sense of safety and dependability promoting an accessible family life, that encourages dreams, aspirations and opportunities.

Our White House Family

Our residents present with complex care needs and/or sensory difficulties that have a profound effect on their lives. Due to the nature of Deafness, 90% of Deaf children in the UK are born to hearing parents, many are unable to sign (BDA, 2021). From this starting point, many of our young adults have faced initial language delays and communication barriers.

Without the secure foundation and social interaction offered by clear communication, many are prevented from learning life skills concomitant with adult independence.

The White House fosters a family ethos where we all come together to learn from each other and support each other, whichever life path we may be on.

Our Mission

Our Staff

We have specialist Staff working 24/7 to ensure our residents have the support they need, whenever needed.

However, in view of fostering independent living skills, residents are expected to be involved in budgeting, meal-planning, shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, recycling, feeding the birds, growing vegetables and all the other wonderful parts of everyday adult life that come with communal living!
